Additional IOGEAR 2-Port DVI KVMP Switch with Audio and Cables (GCS1762) Information

The IOGEAR DVI KVMP Switch GCS1762 switch charts a revolutionary new direction in KVM switch functionality by combining a 2-port USB KVM switch with USB peripheral sharing capability at the same time as it provides an interface for a digital monitor (DVI). As a KVM switch, it allows users to access two computers from a single USB keyboard, USB mouse, and monitor, and any peripherals such as printers and scanners. The GCS1762s independent (asynchronous) switching feature, allows the KVM focus to be on one computer while the USB peripheral focus is on another. This eliminates the need to purchase a separate USB hub as well as the need to purchase separate stand-alone peripheral sharers - such as printer servers, modem splitters, etc. The GCS1762 further improves on previous designs with DVI (Digital Video Interface) connectors, and the transfer of keyboard and mouse data to the computers via a fast, reliable USB connection. DVI supports both digital input (flat panel displays, data projectors, plasma displays, digital TVs and set-top boxes) and analog video input (traditional monitors and TVs).

What Customers Say About IOGEAR 2-Port DVI KVMP Switch with Audio and Cables (GCS1762):

Very satisfied with this product. I have a standard Microsoft USB split keyboard and a logitech trackball usb mouse. DVI output is sharp. Switching between my laptop and desktop is seamless.

Bought this item back in November 2007 and since then it has been working great.I have a wireless Kensington Slimblade mouse and a cabled multifunction IBM keyboard connected to the USB ports and the DVI ports connected to a XFX GeForce 6200 256 MB Video card on both PC's. :-)Not sure why the improvement but my guess is that the wireless keyboard and mouse are connected by one USB wireless transmitter which is connected to the USB keyboard port of the DVI switch. Since all keyboard/mouse data goes thru that transmitter it is a lot "easier" for the switch to sync the keyboard/mouse/video signals when switching between PC's. It's no issue for me because I use one PC as my primary and the other PC is used for CPU intensive/Time consuming stuff like burning DVD's or converting video formats to another format. Also a thing to remember if you buy this device, if you start your PC while the switch is connected to the other PC you will lose your monitor resolution settings and it will default to a different resolution. And yes all the multifunction buttons on the keyboard is working for me thru the switch.I am now "switching" my "very satisfied" comment to "completely happy and satisfied". Overall I am very satisfied with this switch.###################### UPDATE ###########################I just purchased (bought at Amazon on 3/17/09) a Logitech LX710 Wireless Keyboard/Mouse combo to replace my above setup. To switch between PC's will take a couple of seconds so the delay might be a problem for some. The mouse USB port is left unused.

The switching from PC to PC has improved significantly to the point were it is almost instantaneous operation of the keyboard/mouse/video. I'm so Happy. Again.this is just a guess so don't take my word for it.The LX710 by the way is working great for me but I will do a review later on when I had more time to break it in. I wish I could have changed the stars to 5 but it won't let me.

I needed this KVMP, it works pretty good. Only one issue with starting up a computer when not currently on that channel. The other computer when you finally switch to it is nowhere close to the resolution it should be. You have restart the computer with the channel selected, or sometimes you can get the computer to switch to the right res by turning off the monitor and resetting the IOGEAR

Randomly but frequently, when I switch computers the screen will come up properly for several seconds and then go blank for several seconds before coming back. The construction is solid. Thereafter it is solid. I am impressed with the buttons which have good tactile as well as audio and visual feedback. However the internal electronics is not as good. The keyboard, sound and mouse all work without a hitch. However it is hard to use them when the screen is a blank.

I don't think so.Returning the product for a refund, and will buy any other brand that Iogear. I would think a product that supposed to simply switch between two CPUs would do just that.

After some pre-sales questions said the product would work with my system, I purchased the switch (from Amazon), a VGA/DVI adapter for the G4 and hooked it all up. Wouldn't work -- turns out I needed a video card with a DVI port.

Needed this to switch a 22" Apple Cinema Display between a G5 and G4 (server). Booting with the second computer, then switch to the first resulting in no display and the blinking power light that indicated the monitor was not receiving a signal. What a waste.

Fair enough -- another purchase. Still didn't work.Would work with one computer, but trying to switch to the other shut down my first computer abruptly.

Tech support's response: exchange for a new unit. I suggest you do the same.
